Health Day

One of the pillars of MyVillage – Anjuna is “People”. In closed group interactions, it was understood that the people of Anjuna, mostly those of the elderly age groups were facing many health issues. On conducting a survey, it was clear that most people don’t know that they are living with pain. They seemed to believe it was normal. There was a repeated trend in the sharing of symptoms most of which were related to spondylosis and/or a frozen shoulder.

MyVillage – Anjuna approached Dr Lorraine Fernandes, a renowned Physiotherapist from Goa who runs the HOPE Physiotherapy Clinic in Saligao, to conduct a workshop for the people of Anjuna.

The workshop was conducted in the Comunidade hall adjacent to the St. Michael Church in Anjuna and was attended by many individuals and families.

She discussed basic health care – what to look out for, exercises, and symptoms & remedies. She then discussed in detail spondylolysis and frozen shoulder –  the causes, the symptoms, exercises & possible remedies.

The discussion revolved around may aspects by the key discussion points during the session on spondylolysis and frozen shoulder was:

  • What is spondylosis
  • What is a frozen shoulder
  • Why and when doe these conditions occur
  • Who is the most susceptible to spondylolysis and/or a frozen shoulder
  • What are the factors that would make a person more likely to get spondylolysis and/or a frozen shoulder

The highlight was the Q&A session where people were actively engaging the Dr. and her team on health issues they are facing the possible course of action to “live without pain”.

3. Basic exercises/information on both prevention, management and treatment of these conditions.

The programme was open to all and it was conducted in Konkani and English.
